The above picture is of Adam Shibuya receiving the St. Michael’s Majors Minor Midget Scholarship Award from Duncan Stauth (left) and Chick Evans (right).

This award is presented at the GTHL Annual General Meeting each year to recognize a player who achieves a high standard of excellence in hockey and in school.

Adam certainly demonstrates both.

Adam is a goalie for the North York Rangers Minor Midget AAA team, while attaining a 94% O.S.S.D. grade average at Upper Canada College in their International Baccalaureate program. Last year, Adam also received the Class of ’57 Trophy for “merit and attainment in academics and athletics”. He is an honours student with distinction.

When Adam is not playing hockey as a goalie with the North York Rangers or working to maintain his scholastic achievements (his strengths are maths and sciences, focusing on post-secondary education in medicine or engineering) Adam takes time out to play junior varsity hockey and has played football and rugby for the school also. He also participates in tennis, golf and working out in the gym.

We are extremely proud of Adam and his achievements.

Goulding Park Hockey Association News
The annual dinner dance is now long behind us. With about 300 people in attendance it was our most successful in years. It all came together in a matter of weeks due to the extraordinary work of Sheri Hedman, Maria Scali and Steph Gagne. Bryon Waldman and Claude Desjardins manned the raffle table all night and were also on the dance committee together with Brant Snow and Wally Turner.

Sheri and Maria were the recipients of the General Manager’s awards for their volunteering as team managers for many years.

Next years dinner dance has been scheduled for November. Plan to join us so you don’t miss the fun.

Also our Canadian Junior team has won the Gold (again). Wow what a series. We won the final by scoring 5 goals and to think we were within 5 seconds of not making it to the gold medal final.

Chris DiDomenico (25) played for our Goulding Park Rangers AAA division (North York Rangers) before he went on to the “Q” in Major Junior hockey playing for St. John. In his last year with us he played for the North York Rangers Midget team under the coaching of Spence Kirton. Chris stays in touch regularly with Spence and we often see Chris around the arena when he is in town. The whole Ranger organization is extremely proud of Chris’ accomplishments so far and we hope to see more of Chris on the ice with the Toronto Maple Leafs (he was drafted by them and we saw Chris there in pre-season).

It is likely you will see Chris playing against P. K. Subban who was drafted by the Canadiens. P. K. also played some of his minor hockey with the North York Rangers. He left at the end of his Bantam year. However his younger brother remained with us for a few more years (until he decided he wanted to play goal, even though he is not anymore). Their father also coached with us.

Both (Chris and P. K.) are fine young men and we are proud that we have been able to contribute to their success.

GO RANGERS GO

We are in the annual process of reviewing our coaches’ successes and challenges. We have also been speaking with a number of parents who want their children (players) to come to the Goulding Hockey organization next season.

While many of the coaching placements have been decided, we will not be confirming any until such time all final decisions have been made. We are also working diligently at maintaining current costs (except where we have little or no control such as ice costs).

VOLUNTEERS

We are always looking for volunteers to help us in many different areas. We are particularly having problems getting Convenors for the various divisions. This is an important position. Convenors help make up the teams, monitor the games, post stats and get a great view of the game! The ideal situation, and to make it easier for all, is to have two co-Convenors. So please speak to friends and other parents whose children play with yours and consider helping out this season. IF you are interested please call us at 416-222-6579, and leave a message.

SNACK BAR

All profits from the snack bar are funneled back into the hockey program. We strive to keep our prices reasonable and to encourage the players and parents to take advantage of our deals! We’d also like to remind teams that we will work with you to supply snacks after the game at a reduced rate. Please support our snack bar!

HOUSE LEAGUE SPONSORS

If you are interested in sponsoring a House League team or if you know someone who is interested, the cost is $425.00. Please call Ted Georgiadis at 416-633-4374. Sponsorship helps us to maintain low registration costs.
